The Five Things You Need To Know Today (December 16)

1. UN Launches Syrian Aid Appeal- The United Nations (UN) has launched the largest ever aid appeal in Syria for $6.5 billion. The UN estimates that nearly 3/4s of Syria’s 22.4 million population will need aid in 2014.

2. Carjacking Outside New Jersey Mall- A man leaving the Short Hills Mall was shot and killed last night as men attempted to steal his car. The carjackers took a 2012 Range Rover.

3. German Amazon Workers On Strike- Hundreds of Amazon.com workers in Germany went on strike today in an effort to put pressure on the online retailer to agree on a new wage agreement. Amazon has about 9,000 workers in Germany.

4. Beyonce’s New Album Sells Well- Beyonce’s new self-titled album sold more than 400,000 units the first day it was available for purchase. The visual album, marks the largest debut from a female artist this year.

5. RIP Peter O’Toole- Famed actor Peter O’Toole passed away Saturday at the age of 81. The Irish actor was best known for his role in the 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia.
