The Five Things You Need To Know Today (October 16)

1. Typhoons Hit Japan- A typhoon has crept it’s way up the coast in Japan causing mudslides that have grounded hundreds of Japanese flights and complicating Tokyo’s transportation system. So after 7:00 am EST, 17 deaths were reported while 50 people were reported missing.

2. Harry Belafonte Suing Martin Luther King Jr.’s Family- Singer Harry Belafonte is suing the family of MLK Jr’s family over documents Belafonte claims he retained through his close relationship with the civil right leader. Belafonte hoped to auction off the documents for charity.

3. Twitter’s Revenue Doubles In Third Quarter- Twitter must be doing pretty well. They unveiled a multi-billion dollar IPO a couple weeks ago and now revenue has more than doubled in the third quarter. According to a filing yesterday, revenue was at $168.6 million up $82.3 million from a year ago.

4. Apple To Unveil New Product- Today, Apple has sent out invitations for a new event set to take place on October 22. Industry insiders expect Apple to unveil a new line of iPads and iMacs. The announcement will begin at 10 am PST.

5. Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Nominees Announced- The Rock and Roll Hall Hall of Fame has announced a group of first time nominees for the 2014 induction ceremony. These nominees include, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates and Nirvana. These nominees will the ballot that also includes, Kiss, Chic, Deep Purple ,The Meters, N.W.A. and LL Cool J.
