The Five Things You Need To Know Today (October 3)

1. Many Dead In Shipwreck Off Sicily- Early Thursday morning, 94 migrants died when their boat sank after a fire ignited on board. More than 200 people are still missing and the migrants included Eritreans, Ghanese and Somalis.

2. Employment Rate Rises- The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits rose 1,000 last week, reaching 308,000. The tiny increase suggests that companies are still cutting very few jobs.

3. Target To Offer Prepaid Mobile Service- Following in the steps of Wal-Mart, Target will soon be offering a prepaid cell phone service. Starting Sunday, Target will offer a plan with unlimited text and talk costing $35 a month.

4. Jury Finds AEG Not Negligent In Michael Jackson Death- A jury yesterday found AEG Live not negligent in hiring Dr. Conrad Murray in the death of Michael Jackson. Dr. Murray did administer an overdose of anesthesia, but the jury was unanimous in their decision.

5. RIP Tom Clancy-  Military thriller writer Tom Clancy died yesterday at the age 66. Clancy died after a brief illness.
