The Five Things You Need To Know Today (September 3)

1. Number of Syrian Refugees Reaches 2 Million- Due to the Syrian Civil War, the number of civilians that have fled Syria has reached 2 million people according to the United Nations. More than have of the refugees are aged 17 and younger and are heading to neighboring countries.

2. Diana Nyad Completes Swim- Diana Nyad, completed a historic swim yesterday swimming from Havana, Cuba to Key West, Florida. The swim took her about 53 hours to complete and was her fifth attempt at the swim. Nyad is 64 years old.

3. Vodafone Completes Sale Of Verizon- Vodafone has completed the sale of Verizon Wireless to Verizon Communications for $130 billion and stock. Vodafone held 45 percent of its stake. The deal is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2014.

4. CBS, Time Warner End Standoff- CBS and Time Warner have reached a new broadcasting agreement after CBS was blacked out after eight months in New York City. No specific details of the agreement were announcement.

5. Roger Federer Loses- Roger Federer lost to Tommy Robredo in the US Open yesterday. Roger Federer has not won a major tournament since 2000.
