The Five Things You Need To Know Today (June 3)

1. Whitey Bulger Trial Begins Today- Famed Boston gangster, James “Whitey” Bulger’s trial begins today in Boston, Massachusetts. Bulger is accused of ordering the murder of 19 people over a multiple decade long span.

2. Turkish Protesters Clash With Police In Capital- After protesters gathering in a Turkish park to protest new construction, demonstrations turned into violence, where hundreds of people were injured. Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said the “rioters” were walking  “arm-in-arm with terrorism.”

3. Google Glass Ends Facial Recognition- Google Glass has ended a plan that involves their glasses using facial recognition, citing privacy concerns. There is still no word on when Google Glass will be available to the masses.

4. U.S. Factory Activity Up-  U.S. factory activity was slightly up in May, although the pace was a bit sluggish. Financial data firm Markit said the Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) rose to 52.3 from 52.1 in April. A reading above 50 indicates expansion.

5. RIP Jean Stapleton- Jean Stapleton, known as Edith Bunker, the wife to Archie Bunker in All In the Family, died this weekend at 90 years old. She died of natural causes.
