Five Throwback Songs From The 90s You Should Hear Right Now

We are quickly moving across the space time contiuum. The 90s started 23(!) years ago and ushered in what we now know as “modern music.” We saw boy bands become popular, leading ladies Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera dominated the pop world. Baggy pants, Timberlands and Tommy Hilfiger engulfed the hip-hop world. College radio became popular as did indie rock bands like R.E.M. With the growth of the Internet we saw the emergence of a fractured musical audience.

More music opportunites were available. Napster started in 1999. Even though it began at the tailend of the decade, you could start to see the music industry, floundering, trying to figure how to recoup record sales. I am of the opinion that this was one music’s dark age. The music industry had perfected finding its target audience and really catered to it. Rock and Roll was pretty much dead during this time. Even hip-hop was stagnant during this time. Some great, popular songs did premiere during this time.

Here are five throwback songs from the 90s you should hear right now:

1. The Notorious B.I.G.- Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems (feat. Ma$e and Puff Daddy)

2. Pavement- Gold Soundz

3. Jay-Z- Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Life Anthem)

4. Tag Team- Whoomp (There It Is)

5. Red Hot Chili Peppers- Suck My Kiss

What are some of your favorite songs from the 90s?
