Mixtape Monday: Five Stand Out Tracks From Chance the Rapper’s “Acid Rap”

I’ve been posting a few tracks from Chance the Rapper’s Acid Rap for a few weeks now, but I’m going to start trying something new on Mondays. Every Monday will be “Mixtape Monday.” On Mixtape Monday I will pick a new mixtape released in the past week and suggest five songs for your listening pleasure.

This week is Chance the Rapper’s Acid Rap. Chance the Rapper is a 20 year-old rapper from Chicago, Illinois. Billed as the “next big thing,” he broke out with a mixtape called 10 Day, a mixtape detailing a 10-day suspension from school. The mixtape has been downloaded 20,000 times so far.

His sound can only be described as cartoonish. He makes jokes and make weird metaphors. His style is abstract, sort of like Das Racist or Odd Future, but his voice sounds like Andre 3000. He’s almost whiny, but it’s more sing-song than annoying. His big performance this year was at SXSW, and will be featured at this years Lollapalooza.

You can listen to the mixtape here, but below are five songs you should check out specifically:

1. Cocoa Butter Kisses (feat. Vic Mensa & Twista)

2. Interlude (That’s Love)

3. Favorite Song (feat. Childish Gambino)

4. Chain Smoker

5. Everybody’s Something (feat. Saba & BJ the Chicago Kid)
