Where Monday through Thursday I’ll be focusing on an artist/theme/genre of music, Fridays are for posting songs you might have missed in new releases.
1. MGMT- Alien Days
It was pretty hard for MGMT to duplicate the success of their debut Oracular Spectacular on their follow up, Congratulations, but I actually really liked it. “Alien Days” picked up where Congratulations left off and definitely has an alien sound.
2. Chance the Rapper feat. BJ the Chicago Kid- Good Ass Intro
Chance the Rapper sounds like a mix of Childish Gambino and Andre 3000, but is actually a 20 year-old rapper hailing from Chicago, Ill. This is the intro to his new mix tape Acid Days. Hope Kanye doesn’t know he’s kind of lifting the name of his future album Good Ass Job. Love this piano and the horns.
3. The xx- Together
The Great Gatsby soundtrack is certainly a star-studded affair. Executive produced by Jay-Z, the album features, will.i.am, Lana Del Ray, Fergie, Q-Tip, GoonRock, Florence + the Machine, Jack White, Sia and Gotye. The xx song pretty much sounds like all their other songs, moody and dark. Prediction: The Great Gatsby will be the biggest bomb of the summer.
4. Janelle Monae feat. Erykah Badu- Q.U.E.E.N.
Janelle Monae hasn’t been doing a ton lately, but when she releases new music it’s important to take notice. Her beats are always great and this one doesn’t disappoint.
5. Four Tet- Pyramids (Atoms for Peace remix)
Atoms for Peace is Thom Yorke’s supergroup consisting of Nigel Godrich, Flea and members of Beck and R.E.M. This time around they take Four Tet’s “Pyramids” and do a little a remixing.
