Outkast is so ahead of their time. Even though much of the songs were released in the 90s and early 2000s, their songs could be released today and sound exactly what is popular now. I remember reading an article when they were recording Stankonia and apparently they just drive around in a Cadillac freestyling over beats to create new songs. Sounds like a great documentary. How I wished to be a fly on their windshield or sitting in the backseat.
Here are five Outkast songs you should here right now:
Outkast- Atliens (1996)
“I’m cooler than a polar bears toenail, oh yeah.”
Outkast- Player’s Ball (1994)
This is the first single from Outkast. Before, Andre 3000, started dressing like a cartoon character, Big Boi and Andre 3000, looked really similar. Still though, couldn’t this song be released last week?
Outkast- Da Art of Storytellin Pt. 1 feat. Slick Rick (1999)
Outkast has always had a knack for really creative music videos. Here they use puppets and hip-hop legend Slick Rick.
Outkast- Ms. Jackson (2000)
The groups most famous song (remember “Hey, Ya” was only Andre 3000, is Andre 3000 apologizing to Erykah Badu’s mother about their bad breakup and how he will deal with raising the child they had together. Only Outkast could make such a tender song while creating a club hit.
Outkast- B.o.B. (2000)
This song is just bananas. Not only is this song one of the best 100 hip-hop songs of all time, but Stankonia, has to be in the top 50 hip-hop albums of all time.
