Five Summer Tours You Need To See

Summer is coming which means a few things, BBQ, the beach, cold beers and of course summer music. As music festivals like Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Coachella and Governor’s Ball have become popular, so have “travelling festivals.” The first of this type, Lollapalooza was phased out years ago and is now headquartered in Chicago. But, Festivals like Rock the Bells have taken the flame and now other artists are trying to make it work.

Here are five music tours you should check out.

1. AmericanaramA Festival of Music (featuring Bob Dylan, Wilco, My Morning Jacket and others)

Bob Dylan will never really stop. And at the ripe age of 71, Dylan will embark on yet another American tour. This summer though he will have the help from indie rock gods Wilco and just regular rock and roll mavens My Morning Jacket. Other acts on the tour include Dawes, The Wild Feathers,  Richard Thompson Electric Trio and Ryan Bingham. They’ll be in Hoboken, NJ July 26th and Darien Center, NY July 18th. For the full list of dates, click here.

2. Under the Influence of Music Tour (Headliners: A$AP Rocky and Wiz Khalifa. Features: B.o.B., Trinidad James and Pro Era. Special Appearances by Berner, Smoke DZA and Chevy Woods)

In the second year of the “Under the Influence of Music Tour” (I see what did there), Wiz Khalifa and A$SAP Rocky will set out on a 20 city tour that includes Wantagh, NY and Holmdel, NJ. If you have asthma, make sure you bring your inhalers, I feel like it will be hard to breath.

3. Legends of Summer Stadium Tour (Headliners: Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake)

Even though Kid Rock called buying tickets for the concerts “a highway robbery,” (who the hell cares what Kid Rock has to say), I think these shows will be totally worth it. Your see two legends at their prime. And I can only guess how many special guests will be involved. The two are touring all outdoor venues(of course) including, Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park and Soldier Field.

4. Mad Decent Block Party (various artists)

For the more frugal minded, the Mad Decent Block Party is 100% free (yes, that is not a typo.) It’s third year, the Block Party goes from different American cities (usually NYC, Philadelphia, Austin, Chicago and Los Angeles), with a revolving lineup with maybe two mainstays in each city. The brainchild of Mad Decent’s leader Diplo, the Party is super fun (trust me, I’ve been) and is a non-stop dance party. Last year, included Major Lazer, Theophilus London, Po Po and DJ Sega.

5. Good Kid, M.a.a.d City Tour (Headliner: Kendrick Lamar, Featuring: Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul and Jay-Rock

The breakout artist of 2013 is taking his act worldwide as Kendrick Lamar and Black Hippy will venture on a sixty date your, which gives you no excuse not to see him. I’ll be at Governors Ball. #CANTWAIT
